wounds and burns. The gel acts like a protective coating on the skin and accelerates the healing process. It is also a mild anesthetic and relieves pain and itching. It increases the flow of blood and reduces inflammation, swelling and redness.
Aloe vera is also beneficial for skin disorders such as psoriasis, acne and eczema. The gel acts as a moisturiser, removes dead cells and can reduce scarring. Aloe vera gels and sprays are also used in the relief of arthritic pain in the joints and muscles.
YLANG YLANG
Ylang Ylang is every bit as exciting as it sounds. It comes from the flowers of the Candanga Odorata and is an ancient oil that has been used by humans for thousands of years. Famous for its ability to retain moisture and maintain the skin’s natural balance, it has a gentle, calming odour and some rather helpful antiseptic properties.
PURIFIED WATER
We think it’s important to filter water to a high standard to kill any harmful bacteria.
TEA TREE
Hailing all the way from Australia, tea tree oil is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia and has a fresh camphoraceous odour. So we bring it a long way to add its beneficial effects in relation to a variety of skin conditions and infections.
CHAMOMILE
Reflecting the fruity apple-like scent of the plant, chamomile means “earth apple”, which is derived from the Greek word khamaimēlon. Some people may know this as a herb infusion used in making tea, however we have included it in our wipes as it is a natural treatment for eczema and psoriasis.
ALMOND OIL
Mightily beneficial, almond oil is revered when it comes to health, beauty and well, life in general. It comes from a species of tree native to the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and North Africa. The oil from its edible and widely cultivated seed is rich in Vitamin A and is kind to skin pores and follicles as well as being good for sensitive skin.
ARGAN OIL
Widely regarded as the beauty industry’s wonder ingredient, this totally natural plant oil, produced from the kernals of the Morroccan Argan tree, has been used extensively to treat skin diseases and as a cosmetic oil for skin and hair. It moisturises, prevents flaking and nourishes the skin and hair.
ORANGE OIL
Yes you guessed it, orange oil comes from oranges! It’s a completely natural oil taken from the outer peel of the orange fruit and has been highly sought after for centuries because of its immune boosting effects. It is widely used in beauty products and lotions because of its antibacterial properties and strong, fresh scent. As an all-natural method for improving immune function and fighting various ailments, orange oil has been a popular remedy in folk medicine throughout the Mediterranean, India and China for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
AVOCADO OIL
Avocados are having a moment, and not just because they’re nutritious and tasty… Avocado oil offers many benefits and is one of few edible oils not derived from seeds; it is pressed from the fleshy pulp surrounding the pit of the avocado fruit and is tried and tested in cosmetics where it is valued for its regenerative and moisturising properties.
COCOA SEED BUTTER
You are likely to have consumed cocoa butter many times, as it’s used to make chocolate (and who doesn’t love chocolate?!) Cocoa butter (sometimes called theobroma oil) is a natural, meltable oil extracted from the cocoa bean and is rich in healthy, fatty acids, making it an excellent treatment for naturally healing dry, sensitive skin. It is one of the most stable fats with a velvety texture, pleasant fragrance and emollient properties which benefits chapped or burned skin and lips, and can prevent dry, itchy skin.
PALMAROSA OIL
Boasting immense medicinal benefits to the skin, Palmarosa oil is both sweet smelling and powerful – win win! Harvested in Ethiopia from a tropical wild-growing grass, this lively oil has fresh floral fragrance notes of geranium and rose. It is widely accepted to be beneficial to skin health through renewal and nourishment. It also regulates skin moisture and oil production and is therefore useful for both dry and oily skin.
ALL OF THE BELOW CHEMICALS ARE COMMONLY FOUND IN COSMETICS AND TOILETRIES. WE HAVE EXCLUDED THEM FROM ALL OF OUR PRODUCTS BECAUSE WE DON’T THINK THEY’RE ANY GOOD FOR BABIES OR THEIR PARENTS! THIS MAKES OUR PRODUCTS IDEAL FOR USE ON THOSE WITH DELICATE, SENSITIVE OR INFLAMED SKIN OR EVEN CHILDREN SUFFERING FROM ECZEMA.
ALCOHOL
Alcohol strips the skin of its natural oils, often causing redness, irritation and inflammation. It can also stop skin’s natural ability to shed dead skin cells, causing pore clogging. By leaving it out, our products are ideal for use with delicate, sensitive or inflamed skin.
PARABENS
They destroy bacteria, so they’re strong and aggressive and are consequently a common irritant that we don’t think should be near a baby’s skin.
SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES)
These are cheap, effective chemicals that can clean the skin, but they also strip it of its moisture. That means that these chemicals aggravate sensitive skin conditions.
LANOLIN
This is a common ingredient in many cosmetics, but some people are allergic to it, so we left it out!
BENZOATES
These are used to preserve cosmetics and as an antiseptic. They also can intensify the symptoms of asthma.
PHTHALATES
These chemicals make scents and colours last longer on shelf, but some studies have shown that they can have an effect on hormone levels, making them something we didn’t think babies should be exposed to.
METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE (MIT)
This preservative can cause allergic reactions and irritate the skin.
PROPYLENE GLYCOL
This chemical stops water from escaping the skin, reducing the skin’s moisture factor. Studies show that it is not recommended for eczema sufferers.
PHENOXYETHANOL
This chemical has been banned by French certification organisation Eco Cert.
TRICLOSAN
An aggressive chemical that is used to control the growth of bacteria - it is regulated by the FOA and some studies highlight cancer concerns.
PETRO CHEMICALS
This range of chemicals are derived from petroleum and they have no place in an environmentally friendly product.
SOAP
Dries out the skin and can cause irritation.
